Tyler's fall has been really fun so far!  He's loved Halloween ever since I put out the decorations! Towards the beginning of October, I took Tyler to a local Creedmoor farm that had pumpkins.  He loved them of course! Then, Josh and I took him to the State Fair for the first time which was an experience!  For the most part, Tyler really loved it.  He loved the rides and was our little daredevil on the mini rollercoasters!  It was really crowed though, so we left after about 1.5 hrs.  That next day, I took Tyler to Hill Ridge Farms which is a huge farm for kids that has a hayride that goes out to  large pumpkin patch.  My close friends and their kids went as well.  Tyler LOVED this!  We made it home to Jamestown the very next day for October birthdays and went to another pumpkin patch with his cousins, Garrett and Kaitlyn.  And then Tyler's preschool decorated pumpkins too!  So, if you kept count, that's four pumpkins at our house! Last night was Halloween and we took Tyler to downtown Creedmoor for trick or treating.  All the local business hand out candy.  Afterwards, we went up the road to Tyler's preschool parking lot where a local church sponsored a "trunk or treat."  There were several cars who decorated the back of their trunks with elaborate decorations.  For dinner, it was Mickey D's.  :-)  It was easy and fast!  Tyler talked all night about his "candy!"  And he kept saying his favorite phrase "trick or treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat!"  Yes, you might think Josh taught him that, but it was actually me!  So, the Halloween decorations are now up and we will begin thinking about Thanksgiving.  I can't believe that November is here already!

Tyler is doing well overall.  He's speaking more and more.  Potty training is not really happening although this morning he showed way more interest than he ever has before.  He's learned to use the word "no" all the time now.  It's not so fun :-)

Talking is the newest update.  We finally have achieved communiation in our house!  Tyler is doing so well, and we are thankful that we can now understand what it is he wants/needs!  We are preparing for a full fall season already.  We have plans to go to the State Fair in Oct and Hill Ridge Farms Pumpkin Patch. Tyler is going to be a dinosaur for Halloween...we hope.  He isn't always too happy about it.

Some favs:

movie:  tie b/w Mickey and Baby Tyler (his yearly videos I make)
food:  either chicken nuggets or pizza (really healthy!)  he loves fruit too though!
book:  currently, snow white!
drink:  apple juice
toy:  his mickey figurines
activity:  be outside!!

Tyler is doing great and enjoying his new room.  We painted last weekend (my mom and I) and got rid of the baby blue walls and replaced it with a neutral tan.  It looks great, and we are just finishing up with hanging some pictures up.  I'll post pictures of the final project soon.  Tyler started his new preschool class Sept. 2 and he really loves it.  We were nervous since the few times they brought him over there before he'd cry.  But, he is doing well overall and learning so much more.  They break their days into lessons.  For example, they have science, role play, art, circle time, book time, etc.  Yesterday, Tyler came home with a macaroni necklace he'd (well, with help) made!  He was so proud! He also recently starts "singing" the barney song ("I love you, you love me") song.  I know we didn't teach him that, so they are learning it at school!  Overall, he's doing great!  I just ordered his halloween costume today.  He's going to be a dinosaur :-)  I've discovered that using stickers as an incentive for things I need him to do, as well as  a reward for good behavior works for Tyler.  He loves stickers so I've gone on ebay and bought a bulk of them for really cheap!

It's been a few weeks now and Tyler is doing really well with sleeping in his bed.  We have his big boy bed that I found on craigslist.  We have it set up but we still have some work to do.  I want to paint his room tan.  Bye Bye baby blue walls!  And then there are some more details that need to be done. Maybe sometime in this century, it will get done! We still have a few adjustments to figure out though.  He isn't easy to get to fall asleep.  I swear he is going to be a night owl like his daddy.  He gets his energy between 8 and 9pm!  We've also had a hard time getting him adjusted at other houses.  I think over time he'll get used to different beds.  But in the mornings, it's great b/c he will get up by himself, open his door, and instead of getting us, he plays for a good 20 mins.  Of course, I hear him as soon as I hear his "pitter patter" on the floors.  But it's nice to be able to stay in bed until he needs us...and usually it's because he wants "juice!"  Speaking of words, Tyler is really talking up a storm now and we are thrilled!  He is communicating well and while not every word is clear, we know what he is saying.  Starting this coming week, Tyler will start his new class at preschool.  We know he will learn even more...hopefully the potty as well!  We haven't been pushing the potty because...well, we are lazy right now!  It's a huge effort that we all have to be commited to.  We wanted to at least wait until daycare was working on it too.  Tyler is interested but hasn't done anything. So, we'll see but we're not really concerned right now.  We've had enough adjustments with the big boy bed.

8/13/08
After a month of struggling at sleep times, I decided to take the crib mattress out of the crib.  In hindsight, he really was too big for the crib.  He's so long! We made a big deal about how big boys sleep in big boy beds and babies sleep in cribs.  He was really excited about it and has done fairly well!  The first night on the mattress was rough but looking back it would only make sense that if he's too big for the crib, he's most definitely too big for the crib mattress!  So...the  next night I blew up the air mattress and he slept all night!  That  morning when I went to check on him, he was on the floor!  We hope to have a big boy bed for him soon!

7/22/08
We are back from the beach and had a great time!  This was the first year that Tyler was at just the right age for enjoying the ocean, sand, pool, and aquarium!  We talked about all these things prior to our trip, and as soon as he saw the ocean, he yelled out "ochean!" He was a complete daredevil when he got to be on the beach.  He had no fear and would run right into the ocean with or without someone behind him!  As much as I ate that week, I got my workout chasing him!  He enjoyed spending time with Garrett and Kaitlyn all week who were his buddies each day.  He played in the sand and buried his daddy and collected seashells.  He loved the pool and would literally jump regardless if you were there to catch him or not! Grandma LeConey came down a few days and we went to the NC Aquarium where Tyler got several souveniers!  His sleep patterns were not the best as he would wake up quite early each morning (perhaps he was just excited??), but he more than made up for that in nap times.  He would crash for 3-3.5 hrs in the afternoon letting Mommy enjoy herself on the beach :-)  We were also fortunate to see our friends Karen and baby Lawson (turning 1) at the beach!  We were sad to leave and come home especially since this year was so much more enjoyable with Tyler being a great age.  Just being around his cousins allowed Tyler to speak much more and have less tantrums.  So, that was nice!  And with a redhead, we are still thankful Tyler hasn't had a single sunburn yet.  SPF 50 helps tremendously!

On on "non-Tyler" note, Josh starts his new job in Wake Forest tonight.  We are all really excited for this opportunity and hope it leads to much potential in the future!  In the coming weeks, Tyler will have a police car parked in our driveway to come home to each day :-)

7/4/08
We had a great fourth of July with a few neighbors down the road.  We started the day running some errands where Tyler found himself a Micky kite in Walmart, so of course we had to get it for the beach!  We had a cookout at night and watched fireworks.  Tyler loved them, and I continuously had to hold him back from running too close! We've also stopped the paci!! I decided to just stop cold turkey one night expecting Tyler to not handle it well at all because he still uses it for all naps and bedtime.  However, he hasn't used a paci at daycare since he turned 1.  So, it was just me not ready to let go!  Anyway, he hasn't cried for it once! Naps are a little harder as he has a hard time falling asleep, but I'm sure this will get easier!  Our next transition is the toddler/twin bed.  We will start to transition in late summer or early fall.

6/26/08
Our vocabulary explosion has finally occured at 27 months!  Tyler's vocabulary has literally taken off in the past weeks.  It was even more noticable after I was gone at a business trip for four days and came back.  He is saying so much now which makes us so much more at ease.  Just tonight he said anything I did and more! He is counting to 10 and identifying a circle, square, and triangle. We look forward to our beach trip in two weeks.  Tyler has been prepped for all the fun things he'll see this year as well as spending some time with his guy pal, Lawson who will be down there during the same time!

6/9/08

Tyler is really enjoying the warmer (hot!) weather lately.  We have bought a new baby pool for this summer that he loves to play in.  He isn't 100% comfortable submerging himself in the water yet.  Mostly, he just stands and splashes.  He is also swinging on the big boy swings now in addition to the toddler swing.  He loves to show everyone how big he is!  He is using many more words lately which is helping out a lot in our household!  For instance, if we are eating and he wants something like ketchup, he will finally say "ketchup" instead of putting his hands out and crying.  We still have a fair amount of those crying battles, but things are definitely getting better.  He is saying his numbers much better.  I've heard him count to 10 clearly but he doesn't always do it on demand.  He still loves playing with his Micky figurines and his new animal figurines.  He has never been a toy child!  He is trying to overcome a bad cold right now.  It's leaving him very tired with no appetite at all.  We hope that he will be better by Wednesday when he has to go back to daycare.  Josh's mom has been watching him for a couple of days in the meantime.

5/14/08

We had a great Mother's Day weekend.  We spent the weekend at Mimi and Paw Paw's house where Tyler got to spend time with Garrett and Kaitlyn.  Tyler made a cute handtowel at school that his handprints are on it along with a poem that goes with it.  Tyler is becoming more and more like a two year old.  He is pickier than before with his meals which causes many tantrums.  I've asked numerous times at daycare if he is picky there, and they say he is not.  Time out is being used more and more but is proving to be effective with him.  I've actually started spanking too. This is probably the hardest age yet to go through because of the outbursts and tempers.  Despite the many tantrums, he is a loveable child! Tyler's turned into a night owl like his daddy and gets a burst of energy at night lately.  We've pushed his bedtime out to between 8 and 8:30 but he will sit in his room and talk till close to 9.  He's also sleeping till around 7:30 most mornings which is great but it's hard for work days.  He still loves being outside and would be outside all day if he could.  He loves his dvds and will come to Josh and I asking for "dvdeeeeeeeees" a lot!  Mickey is still a favorite in the house, of course.  His speech is making progress but still proves to be a hinderance for our family.  We know that it will happen in his own time and then we'll complain we can't shut him up :-) The question of potty training and transitioning to a toddler bed has come up recently, and I'm just not sure we are really ready for either.  Until Tyler is showing an interest in either, I feel like it will be harder work for us all.  And, I'm not in a hurry for either because both will be time consuming to adjust to! My guess is that we will begin both by late summer when he's 2 1/2.  Once he moves into the 2 yr old room (he has one child in front of him before moving), they will begin working with them using the potty.

4/7/08

Just a vocabulary update.  I was by myself with Tyler all weekend since Josh was traveling, and I really tried to work on Tyler's communication by limiting the television and focusing on more hands-on activities.  Tyler did really well and by Sunday was telling me "juice" instead of dragging me to the fridge, saying "dvd" to watch his baby einstein dvd, and saying "color" when he wanted to color.  These are small steps but definitely a step in the right direction rather than pulling my hand to what he wants!  He still does that, but I am trying to get him to tell me at the same time. It's kinda sad that if I were to stay home with him more, he might get it even faster.

4/3/08
Tyler had a great birthday party even though we had to have it inside the house due to the rain.  He got a lot of fun things!  We took him to his 2 yr visit yesterday and he weighed in at 28.2 lbs (50%) and 36 3/8" (90%).  We talked a while about his speech, and while it was determined Tyler might have a delay, we made a plan to wait a few months before worrying enough to involve a therapist.  He is definitely not where the "normal" 2 yr old should be in terms of language development, however I'm not sure that it's worth rushing it if he's just taking his time.  He's always been ahead of the curve with many of his developments, so this might be his pace with speech.  In any event, if by summer he is not making vast improvements, we will consider getting him evaluated.  We hope that with the transition to the 2 yr old class at school, he will progress along with the other kids.  Tyler is now fully done with immunizations until kindergarten and his next checkup is not until he turns 3!

In the meantime, Tyler is perfectly healthy and doing quite well!  He still loves his Mickey figurines, and well...anything Mickey!  We definitely envision a trip to Disney World in the coming years.

Tyler had a great 2nd birthday!  We had a great time this morning at the Marbles kid's museum in downtown Raleigh followed by a lunch at Ruby Tuesdays and then home for a nap.  Tyler and daddy napped...I cleaned and baked cupcakes for his school tomorrow!!  We spent the afternoon playing outside in the beautiful weather!  Tyler got some fun gifts today.  From Josh and I, he received a Mickey shirt, a Mickey book, and word flashcards.  He also got a $15 visit to the museum!! lol.  Taylor and Chris were so sweet to buy him a present as well.  He will now be completely styling in his new Puma sneakers and Reef sandals!

Tyler had a great Easter this past weekend.  He spent the weekend with his Mimi and Paw Paw and got to see his cousins, aunt and uncle, and great grandmother.  He got an easter basket full of stickers, a book, and some easter candy!  On Saturday, we did an easter hunt since the weather was so nice, and he loved it!  He had already had one at school the Wed before.  We also celebrated his SECOND birthday a few days early with my side of the family. He received his bedding and a toy/book storage bin for his new big boy room (to be started some time this year).  He also got Mickey Mouse pjs and a Mickey beach towel!  He got a remote control police car as well!  Josh and I will celebrate his birthday Thursday by going to Marbles, a children's museum in downtown Raleigh.  And then, Sunday is his birthday party with his friends!

3/17/08
The past few weeks have been very trying for us in the LeConey house!  With Tyler's limited vocabulary, meltdowns have been very common.  I was really starting to worry about it but then I came to realize after talking to a few people and reading different articles, that for the first 2-3 years, kids seem to develop so differently.  Just tonight after picking Tyler up from daycare, we came in and never turned on the TV.  It was amazing that he didn't even notice it.  This is a good thing!  I noticed things he was saying once I really started listening.  I heard him say "where's daisy?"  when he was looking for his figurine.  I also heard him say "what's that?"  I came to realize that I have to really listen to understand what he's saying because it doesn't always come out totally clear.  But I know for a fact that's what he was saying.  Anyway, I feel like turning two is going to be a big milestone this year, and I'm hopeful that in the next months he will get into the 2 year old class and learn a more structured curriculum!

3/8/08
It's been a long time since I've complained about teething, but the time has come again. Tyler's two year molars are coming in and really irritating him a lot!  He has had a really hard time with them and been very much unlike himself which is stressful for us all.  We took him to the dr to make sure we could rule out another ear infection, and she found that one molar broke through, one is on it's way, and then he has two after that.  I will be SO glad when we don't have to worry about getting any more teeth!  I'm sure Tyler will too!  We want our happy little boy back!

2/27/08
It's hard to believe in a month, Tyler will be another year older!  He is 23 months old today.  He is doing a few new things lately such as two word phrases.  He is lately saying "bye bye Mickey" "or bye bye ....(anything)."  He is getting over another stubborn ear infection.  The tantrums are becoming a little more frequent unfortunately!  However, I think his 2 year molars are really bothering him.  We are going to see Playhouse Disney Live in Greensboro this weekend, and I hope he will really enjoy it seeing that Mickey will be there!  He is continuing to count everything!

2/15/08
Tyler had a great Valentine's Day as did I!  He and his daddy decided to surprise me at work by showing up at my desk.  I felt someone behind me, so I turned around and Tyler was standing there with one single tulip!  He was so cute and Josh definitely got the approval from my coworkers!  Tyler got an early Valentine's present from me at the beginning of the month.  I found a Mickey Mouse Valentine's day book at Target.  So, he's had that for a while and reads it most every day!  He also got a huge Tweety bird balloon.  He is counting now.  He's so funny, he'll find anything he can and point his fingers to say "ooooooone, toooooooooo, freeeee!"  Sometimes, he'll go to five but he definitely counts everything up to three!

1/27/08
Tyler is 22 months!  He is really coming into toddlerhood!  He is starting to become more familiar with the potty and what it is used for.  He also loves reading his potty book!  Speaking of reading, he would read all day if he could.  But at some point, mommy and daddy just want to give it a rest!  He loves to grab a stack of books and bring them over to me to read.  He sits in amazement as we read through 4-5 books several times a day.  His curent new favorite books are his Baby Einstein collection, Wheels on the Bus, Red Hat, Green Hat, and many more. We plan to get him a new sling bookcase for his room to keep them in.  That's one of his potential birthday presents!  When I don't have time to read, he sits and "reads" to himself!  If he's not reading, he's watching Mickey!  He adores Mickey Mouse and just can't get enough of it...though Josh and I can!  He also loves watching his Baby Einstein DVDs as well.  He is learning a lot at daycare and the teacher informed us the other day in circle time that when she held up a flash card with a picture of a clown on it, Tyler said "daddy!"  The clown had red hair, so he automatically associated his daddy with the clown!  Perhaps there is some truth to that!  He is lately shouting "daddy! momma!" around the house.  In 22 months, I haven't heard "momma" too often, so it's nice to hear it continuously now.  Tyler is eating well and loves to use his utensils, especially the spoon.  He loves singing, and jumps in on the words he knows so proudly.  He kicks the soccer ball which excites his daddy.  He helps pick up his toys without being asked before nap and bedtime.  The other night, we were leaving to go out to dinner and as we were walking out the door, Tyler decided that he needed to put away two random toys that were on the floor.  We hated to stop him!  We are working on him communicating better with "more" "please" and "thank you."  His new favorite breakfast is cheerios with milk in which he uses a spoon so well to eat on his own.  He makes animal sounds for a cow, horse, pig, frog, dog, cat, sheep, lion, and more.  We are already thinking about his 2 year birthday.  We are thinking of getting his new big boy bedding, etc for when he is ready for his new room since he doesn't need any more toys!  We want to get him new bedding for his twin bed, a bookcase, and the matching table and chair that goes with his toy chest.  We are doing a sports theme.  He is a total cuddle bug and loves to come and wrap his arms in mine and sit on the couch with his head on my shoulder.   He's a well-behaved kid and we are lucky to have such a blessing in our lives!

1/20/08
We found out that Tyler had an ear infection last week but that we only needed to treat it with ear drops.  This is his first infection since tubes.  Luckily, the tubes were doing their job and draining the fluid out of his ears.  It just looked gross!  Tyler was never truly bothered by it but one day.  Much better than before the tubes!

1/7/08

This morning when I dropped Tyler off at daycare he did the cutest thing.  They have a window in his room that looks out into the parking lot and soft climbing blocks underneath so that they can climb and see out.  Well, as I was walking out to my car which happened to be parked right outside of that window, he was waving and blowing me kisses and mouthing "bye!" !!!

12/27/07
We had a great Christmas!  Tyler gave me a great present Christmas morning and slept till 7:45 which is unheard of for him!  Tyler got so many presents that it looks like we need to make more room for them in our house!  Some of his biggest highlights were his tractor, big boy luggage, step stool, Mickey Mouse figurines, play cars and motorcycle, Little People airplane and bus, several books and dvds, Click Start Leap Frog computer and much more!   Tyler seemed to understand Christmas much more than last year, and he ran into the living room excited to open his presents Christmas morning.  He even managed to make it the entire day without a nap.  I practically had to make him go to bed at 7:30!  We spent the Sunday before Christmas at Grandma LeConey's house where we opened presents from Granmda, Uncles Gid and Jake and Aunts Desiree and Wendi.  We also ate yummy homeade lasagna!  We left for Jamestown on Christmas Eve where we spent two days!  Tyler is enjoying all of his toys and has really turned into a big boy by using his new step stool to wash his hands and brush his mouthful of teeth!  He turns 21 months today and is continually talking more.  He is trying to sing the ABCs, Twinkle Twinkle, and Old MacDonald.  He is saying Mickey now...we knew it was only a matter of time!  In fact, he is becoming even more Mickey-obsessed.  The other day, he got mad when I put in one of his new DVDs and started screaming "Miiiickey!!"

Tyler and I went to our annual Meredith girls Christmas party yesterday which was held at Mere's house.  We had a great time and Tyler got a new truck puzzle from Dana and Jena!  We all exchanged a gift for the kids.  I'll upload a few pictures on the website but they are all at the website below.  I noticed just recently how big Tyler is getting especially next to all the other kids in the group.  We are in 18 mo-2T clothes and wearing size 6 shoes!  He weighs 27 lbs according to his most recent dr appt.  He's doing very well at his shape sorter and puzzles with matching the pieces up all by himself.  He's definitely saying more words but often a mixture of chinese and german seems to seep out!  We are really excited about his second Christmas!

12/1/07
We learned today that Tyler has hand, foot, mouth disease!  A few days ago, he came home from daycare with a fever of 102.7 but it was gone by the next day.  However, this morning I noticed a rash forming on Tyler's lip and hand.  Pretty soon, it started to spread to the rest of his body so I called the dr and that's when I learned what it was.  Poor thing has blisters all over his body, but focused on his mouth, hands, and his bottom.  He's pretty grouchy no doubt!  Supposedly, there should be sores in his mouth, but I haven't looked inside to see them yet.  It's pretty hard to get past him!  The recovery time is about a week, so I pray that his daycare has a decent policy about when he can return, as both Josh and I really need to be at work.  I'll spare you the pictures, but Tyler definitely doesn't look like himself!  It looks very painful!

11/26/07
Tyler will turn 20 months old tomorrow!  He is learning so much and demonstrating it daily!  I'm happy to report that he is finally saying "mommy/momma!" He is also repeating a lot of new words.  He loves to be a little helper by throwing away trash in the trash can, handing us things that he shouldn't have, helping me unload the dishwasher, and picking up his toys each day before naptime and bedtime!  This truly is a great age!  Since my last update, Tyler has started the tantrums a little more frequently.  He definitely gets upset when things don't go the way he wants or when we just can't understand what he wants.  But, on the good side he gets over them within a minute and starts smiling and playing again right afterwards!  He still loves to dance to any music.  Still loves Mickey and the Wiggles.  He's been getting more molars which I believe will pretty much complete his teething process pretty soon.  He started showing signs of understanding the potty process by telling me when he went and running into his room to be changed, however he doesn't want to sit long on the potty so we aren't pushing anything right now.  I've also discovered that he is a pro at the shape sorter toy he has!  I remember when he got it for Christmas last year and he had no idea how to do anything with it.  I never paid attention until yesterday when his Grandma LeConey came over and was playing with him.  He can match all the shapes and colors and is so proud of himself at the end! Tyler had a great Thanksgiving with his family.  He wore his indian hat while eating lots of turkey, dressing, veggies, bread, and more! We've decorated for Christmas and luckily, he doesn't really pay much attention to the tree except every once in a while he will run up to it and say "tee!" for tree.  We are very much looking forward to spending Christmas as a family this year and know that Tyler will enjoy it even more this year.  Happy holidays!

10/31/07
Tyler turned 19 months over the weekend.  He's talking up a storm, yet we still really don't have a clue as to what he is saying!  He loves pumpkins ever since he saw them at Hill Ridge Farm with his friends Elisa, Hailee, Lawson, and Jena.  He says "pumpa."  His "mimi" got him a pumpkin book. He has a new Mickey Mouse doll which his grandma LeConey bought him.  I was with her when we found it, and we just couldn't hold off until Christmas.  Tyler sleeps with Mickey every night and loves making him sing.  He is running faster and faster each day.  He currently loves stomping on our floors since we are in the middle of a remodeling project and our carpet has been torn up.  He likes to hear the echo :-)  He's doing well at school and rarely turns back when I leave him for the day.  He still loves books, and his favorite will always be Brown Bear.  We have already started his Christmas list.  Sleeping 11-12 peaceful hrs at night, and he loves, loves, loves to be outside.  We see very few temper tantrums and consider ourselves lucky.....for now :-)  Even though Tyler doesn't speak in full sentences, we can gather what he is trying to communicate to us.  And if we can't, he's started to come and take my hand and take me to what he wants.  He's becoming pickier with what he wants to eat.  The things he once loved, he doesn't like as much anymore.  It seems to change daily.  However, one love remains the same:  bananas and grapes!

Tyler was superman for Halloween and loved wearing his costume all day today at his daycare's fall festival!  This morning, he kept handing me his cape to put on him.

10/20/07
Tyler has had a great fall so far.  He went to Hill Ridge Farm along with his other buddies, Hailee, Elisa, Lawson, and Jena.  He saw all the animals and went on a hayride to pick out his own pumpkin.  He has decorated his own pumpkin at daycare, and I added his name and year to it.  He loves to see pumpkins now and will say "pumpi" (for pumpkin).  He is superman this year for Halloween even though it will probably be next year before he actually goes trick or treating!  However, he can help hand out candy with me!

Tyler's 18 months and had his appt today.  He's 26 lbs (50%) and 34 1/2 " long (80%).  Theme is the same:  long and lean!  He showed off all of his skills, waved to the dr, talked a lot, climbed all over everything in sight, and demonstrated his new dangerous skill of jumping off chairs (thanks to his teachers, daddy and Mimi!!).   Only one shot today and then we'll probably go back at the beginning of Nov to get him a flu shot.

Tyler's doing well recovering from getting his tubes and we hope it's the last of many ear infections!  He continues to absolutely love books, music and dancing, mickey mouse, and cars!  He's had his fair share of battle wounds (many of which you'll see in the pics). We can't believe that his next appt is when he turns 2 years old.  It's crazy to imagine it's gone so fast!

9/18/07
Tyler had his ear tube surgery this morning at 7:30 and did really well!  We worried how he would do without food and juice this morning, but he did surprisingly well and never really fussed.  We woke him up at 5:30 am and put him straight in the car.  By the time we got there and did all the paperwork, they were ready for him!  They said he did very well and even in recovery, he never fully cried, just whined a lot.  The entire thing was very speedy so we were out of the hospital at 8:00!  Tyler was immediately hungry so he ate in the car and had a few sips of water.  He only slept 30 mins at home and then woke up hungry again.  He seems perfectly fine, so I assume we will be back to the normal day now!

9/16/07
We are taking Tyler to get tubes in his ears on Tuesday.  We hope that this will help keep him healthier especially during this coming winter season.  Keep us in your thoughts!

Tyler and I have had a rough week this week.  Tyler's had a stomach bug which he gave to me, but I got it worse!  He also has another ear infection so we are going to see the ENT next Tuesday for a consultation about tubes.  We are really ready for this and know that it will help him through the winter months.  Tyler is chatting up a storm and saying "dada," "daddy," "bye bye," "uh oh," "nite nite," "thank you" (dank du), "cup," "brown bear," "mama" (on occasion!), "paw paw", and trying to say "toby."  He LOVES reading his books especially his baby word books.  He's gotten to where he will take my hand and show me what he wants or he'll bring something to me and plop it in my lap.  He loves the nursery rhymes "Pease Porridge" and "One Two Buckle My Shoe."  Poor thing is getting bitten at daycare, but they are working with the parents of the biter to help stop it.  He's in bed by 8 and wakes up between 6 and 7.

8/31/07
Tyler is 17 months old now!  He loves to point at things while we are in the grocery store or even at home.  He is following many two-part instructions.  He uses his spoon and fork fairly well.  He points out his head, ears, mouth, nose, eyes, belly, and feet.  He's starting to get picky about meals whereas before he'd eat anything.

8/12/07
Tyler has another ear infection which was discovered while staying at Mimi and Paw Paw's house.  He has a new word--"Paw Paw."  He loves to go around and whisper it!

7/26/07
Tyler is 16 months old and getting smarter every day!  He knows where his head, nose, and belly are, and we are working on learning his ears and eyes.  Tyler is a major cuddlebug with mommy and loves to cuddle before bed lately which doesn't bother me at all!  He recently got a haircut from daddy that makes him look really different and much older unfortunately!  Tyler's also developed a sign for "more" which isn't the typical sign language but if he's communicating that's all that matters!  He loves saying "uh oh" as well but still is pretty limited on words.  We know that he will come around when he's ready though!  Tyler has also learned to climb on everything!

7/22/07
We just got back from our beach trip, and Tyler seemed to love it there.  He loved jumping in the pool and running all down the beach.  He also loved having his two cousins as play pals for the week!  He had a few sleep issues at night but overall did well adjusting.  Check for pictures and videos soon!

Baby Safley was born today!  Tyler finally has a BOY friend among my group of friends!  We didn't know it it was a boy or a girl until now! Lawson Safley is Karen's, my good friend and college roomate's, new son!  We can't wait to meet him!

7/8/07
We are preparing for our beach trip next week at Wrightsville and hope that Tyler will really enjoy it this year!  He is saying a few more things like "uh oh."  He loves saying it and demonstrating it!  He's really beginning to run and absolutely loves being outdoors.  We are amazed at how much he understands and listens.  He has started fighting two naps a day, so we'll have to see if this is just a phase or if we need to start merging his two naps into one long early afternoon nap.

6/28/07
Tyler is 15 months old and had his doctor appointment the other day.  He weighs 22 lbs (25%) and is 32" long (75%).  He only gained 1 lb since turning one, but he grew 2" in three months!

5/27/07
No tubes for now.  Tyler's double ear infection had cleared up at his dr appointment, however we aren't positive that it won't end up coming back for a total of 8 ear infections.  At that point, we will ask to be referred and go from there.  Hopefully summer will bring Tyler more luck!  Tyler's new thing is blowing kisses and making the indian noise!

5/21/07
In the past month, Tyler's really taken off and is basically running around the house!  He loves to be outside and play.  His two favorite things are his power wheels and his truck chair.  We laugh that he has a big belly, yet he is still average for his weight!  He definitely has a big appetite though! He is wearing 12-18 month clothes, so he seems to be right on track.  He is recovering from yet another double ear infection, and we are meeting with his doctor on Thursday to see if it's cleared up.  If not, we might be referred to an ENT for tubes.  He is trying to say more words.  His favorite book is Brown Bear, Brown Bear, so he loves to say it!  He also is trying to say a few other things to mimic me.....but no "mama!"  He hasn't said it for months.  He is responding really well to things I ask him to do.  For example, if I say "let's put on your shoes," he will go and sit down in his  chair.  He'll also go to the door when I say it's time to go.  He will go find a certain book if I ask.  If I ask if he's ready for lunch/dinner, he will go to the kitchen and put his arms up for the high chair.  He likes to throw things at Toby, our dog, so I'm not sure how to handle that quite yet!  Luckily, our dog is very tolerant of Tyler beating up on him!

4/21/07
Tyler has just gotten over a stomach bug which lasted about four days.  It was not fun for us all!  We also knew he was getting another molar as well, which we think came in.  I THINK he now has three molars and a total of 11 teeth!  Today, we got him a pair of sandals from Stride Rite and got his one year pictures taken.  He didn't want to stand still and would have rather run around the store, so we barely got one decent pose! He is talking much more now and says "dog" and "hi."

4/12/07
In the past weeks, Tyler has competely gotten rid of the bottle and formula and is getting 6 oz of warm milk before bed.  He's done really, really well with all the changes and is eating a TON of food! We all had a great Easter in Jamestown and came back to spend time with Josh's mom where Tyler got an Easter basket filled with books and a stuffed animal.  Tyler is getting another molar so that's been tough, but the whole teething thing has gotten much better and much more predictable.

4/2/07
Tyler's gone through a lot of changes since he's turned one.  We have weaned him from his bottle, and he did great with that.  We started to introduce whole milk to him, but he was really fussy and made me think that it might be hurting his stomach, so I stopped giving it to him for the meantime.  He has moved to the toddler room at daycare because he's the only one in his class that's walking even though he's not the oldest! So, he is now the youngest in his class and is on a much more scheduled routine during his days at daycare.  We also seem to think that Tyler's having separation anxiety because he is especially clingy with me and gets very upset when I'm not right next to him.  He's started falling to the floor and crying over this past weekend, so I'm afraid the tantrums might be starting! We've also turned his carseat around which I thought might help the car rides seem more enjoyable, but I think it's made it worse because now he can see me.

Last Thursday, we had his 1 year doctor's appointment. His stats are 21 lbs (25th percentile) and 30 1/4 inches long (75th percentile).  Yep, he's long and lean like his daddy!  He got three shots and a finger prick to check his hemoglobin (iron level).  He cried of course with the shots, but was fine in one minute tops.  He didn't even flinch with the finger prick.

3/27/07
Tyler is 1 year old today!  He celebrated his birthday this past weekend with family and friends at our house.  He got some great gifts and ate his first helpings of cake and ice cream!  You can see the pictures soon as I post them.

He's had such a full year and we look forward to what the future years will bring.  Make sure to check out his first year video linked on the "videos" page.

3/11/07
Can you say "sick??"  Tyler has a double ear infection that is making him very sick.  He's been having high fevers and sleeping all day long!  We hope he gets better soon!

2/27/07
Tyler is 11 months old today and is walking very well.  However, he walks only when he wants to!  He still wobbles a lot, but we are impressed that he is walking as early as he is.  He has just gotten over a long stretch of sicknesses that began with a cold and ended with four days of 103 fevers.  We've officially lost count of how many teeth he has, but he definitely has a mouth full!  He LOVES to dance to any music.  He hates car rides, so we hope that turning him face-forward in a month or so will help remedy this!  We are still working on waving "bye bye" and a few words such as "doggy" and "uh oh."  We hope to start transitioning him off the bottle during the next month and moving him to only sippy cups.  Right now, he's not willing so it will be a process.  We also plan to limit his paci to only crib time and car rides which is pretty much what we do now.  Fairly soon, we hope to get rid of it all together.  We are actively planning his first birthday which is scheduled for Saturday, March 24 at our house.

2/18/07
Tyler is 10 1/2 months old and is changing daily.  He is starting to walk!  He is eating a lot of table foods for his three main meals.  We haven't found anything that he won't eat! We also switched to a different formula that is made from whole milk to help transition him to whole milk by 12 months.  He seems to be tolerating it fine.

2/2/07
Tyler turned 10 months on the 27th and is doing a few new things.  He is trying to say "uh oh."  He's also starting to dance to music!  He sways back and forth and bops up and down.  His balance has gotten very good and even took a few baby steps on his own last night!

1/25/07
Tyler's new favorite thing to do is to open and close doors.  He has a new toy called a playzone, and he will crawl in it, shut the door, then open the door and crawl out.  He does this over and over!  Before long, I will have to get locks for the cabinets since I'm sure he will figure that out soon.  We have a gate to block the kitchen entrance, but sometimes he's in there with me.  He is also working on two new top teeth.  They are taking their time!  Tyler has another ear infection and is also being treated for that.

Tyler had his 9 month visit yesterday. He weighs 20 lbs, 2 ounces (50%) and is 29" in length (75%). She found two more teeth that are starting to break through on the top in addition to the one that just came in the other day. He is about to have four teeth on the top to make a total of six teeth!! Between the teeth and his haircut this weekend, he's going to look so much older!! She said everything looked good with his development and to really make him a part of meals now. Bottles are #1, but food should be definitely increasing and a part of his daily schedule. She encouraged him feeding himself table food, cheerios, puffs, etc. And of course she encouraged sticking with the sippy cup since he should be weaned of the bottle between 12-15 months. She also said that this is a good time to be using "no." Well, I say no all the time, but she said that when he does something that he really should not be doing safety-wise to change my tone to a more direct one. Josh chimed in and said that's probably why the dog doesn't listen to me! Anyway, she said he won't really understand it, but it's good to start now. He got his second dose of the flu shot and cried for maybe 5 secs. So the clencher....his next appt is when he turns 1. That's hard for me to grasp! Three months away....

He is also saying "mama!"  Of course, this makes my day!

Remembering 2006
Tyler, in 2006 you made a great entrance and accomplished so many milestones! You were born on March 27 and proved to the world that a redhead was in mommy's belly!  At 6 1/2 weeks old you accomplished your first milestone...smiling!  Not long after that, you laughed out loud but only for me at first.  You spent a lot of months squealing, blowing rasberries, and cooing!  But despite all of those things, you couldn't quite figure out how to sleep long at night.  Your favorite place to sleep was in your swing.  And you slept there for 5 straight months!  At 5 1/2 months you learned to sit up by yourself and see the world from a different view!  Your biggest milestones of the year were learning to crawl at 7 1/2 months old and taking steps at 8 months old!  Your family is so proud of you and can't wait to see what 2007 brings for you!

Tyler's starting to crawl which became very evident last night. On the floor, he will move a little, but in his crib last night he managed to do a 360 turn on his belly and was facing the opposite direction this morning!

Sleep has been a little different the past weeks. He had been sleeping during the night continuously, but he's been waking up around 4:30 or 5 am to eat and then falls back asleep. I don't really mind too much because he's going to bed at 7:30 or 8, so he's still sleeping a long time. Getting up once isn't as bad as three times a night! He's had several colds and has been teething, so this has all contributed to the sleeping issues.

We are getting his 6 month pictures taken October 7 in Greensboro. We are hopeful to get family pics of the three of us as well as some with his cousins, Garrett and Kaitlyn.

Saturday, Tyler and I get to see all of my friends and his two future girlfriends! My friends are all having a cookout to get together and bring the babies along...and significant others (but they aren't as much fun)!

That's all for now. He goes back to the doctor at 9 months, which will be sometime after Christmas! The time is flying by. However, we need to bring him in late-October to get a flu shot since he's in daycare.

I put together a slideshow of Tyler's first 6 months to share with you all.

Enjoy and use the volume!

12/27/06
Tyler turned 9 months old today!  Only three more months till the big 1!

12/26/06
Tyler celebrated his first Christmas! Christmas Eve was spent with his Grandma LeConey, Aunt Wendi, and Uncles Gideon and Jake.  Tyler got a lot of toys including a new push walker, a hammer toolset, a toy chest, balls, books, and lots more! We all ate Grandma's homeade lasagna and then headed out around 4 pm to go to his Mimi and Paw Paw's house!

Tyler spent that evening with even more family and woke up Christmas morning with a lot more presents to open!  We went over to his great-grandmother's house and opened presents from his great-grandmom and great-uncle!  He got a leap frog learning table and a drop and roar dinosaur toy.  He also got more balls from his Aunt Stephanie and Uncle Rodd.  His cousins, Garrett and Kaitlyn provided lots of entertainment for Tyler as they played together.  We ate a big lunch, and Tyler ate at the dinner table with us.

Afterwards, we headed back over to Mimi and Paw Paw's house and opened even more presents!  Tyler got a bouncing zebra and a set of Baby Einstein DVDs.

Overall, it was a great Christmas and Tyler adjusted well to all the people and activities of the holiday!

12/22/06
Today I walked all by myself with my push walker!  Mommy and Daddy were both there to see it themselves!

12/14/06
Tyler now has a third tooth which emerged the other night.  It is a top left tooth, so we say he now has one fang!  Santa came to visit Tyler's daycare yesterday and Tyler was very interested in his beard.  But soon after,  he decided he wasn't a fan and cried to get down!  I'm sure in the years to come that he will change his mind! He has also started saying "ba ba" in addition to "da da."  Maybe one day he'll decide to say my name!!

12/8/06
After a long week of fussing and sleepless nights, we learned that Tyler's ear infection had not cleared up on the Amoxicillin.  So, we have started another prescription and hope that this will clear up his ear infection.

11/27/06
It's hard to believe Tyler's 8 months old today!  The months are passing so fast!

11/25/06
Tyler celebrated his first Thanksgiving this past Thursday (11/23).  We had Thanksgiving dinner with Grandma LeConey,  aunt Wendi and  uncles Gid and Jake.  He ended up sleeping through the meal because he's been sick.  We found out the day before Thanksgiving that he had an ear infection and pink eye!  The day after Thanksgiving, we drove to Jamestown to see the rest of the family.  Tyler is crawling a lot and showing interest in taking a few steps with us holding onto his hands.  He is also pulling up in his crib and attempting to pull up on other pieces of furniture.  We are excited for his first Christmas to come around and have already started decorating!

11/15/06

Tyler spent his first weekend away from mom and dad and with Mimi and Paw Paw!  I went to the mountains with some college friends to have a "girls weekend." Josh worked all weekend but was home on Sunday so we could all hang out!  It was lots of fun, but it was great to finally see Tyler on Sunday!

10/31/06
HAPPY 1ST HALLOWEEN TYLER!  You were a cute pea pod!  Check out the pictures!

10/28/06
Tyler turned 7 months yesterday!  He is really starting to pull up and to crawl!  Favorite toys?  His play cell phone, remote control, and stuffed animals!

10/23/06
Tyler is on his way to crawling!  He is scooting backwards and will get up on all fours and rock back and forth.  He is also reaching up for people to pick him up.  A little bit of separation anxiety has kicked in if I leave him on his own.  He continues to sleep through the night until around 7 am.  He has slowed down on his growth spurt long enough to be in size 6-12 month clothes for the timebeing.  He is drinking 5 bottles a day with one or two solids in between feedings. Favorite foods are still fruits, carrots, and sweet potatoes.  Definite dislikes are squash, green beans, and green peas!

10/13/06
I celebrated my birthday on the 10th with both Josh and Tyler.  It was a great day!  Josh and I spent the first half of the day just the two of us, and then we picked up Tyler from daycare and headed out to the pumpkin patch.  I'll post pictures soon under the 6 month album.  Tyler has been sleeping much better through the night and only really wakes up once during the night for his paci.  We already have his halloween costume ready for him.  He is going to be a pea pod! I figure this is a year I can get away with silly costumes!

10/9/06
We, as a family, got professional pictures taken this past weekend.  Tyler did a great job and was so cooperative during the 3 hour appointment!  You can see his pictures on the photo album page.  He is doing some new things lately.  Daddy can get him to sit and stand up by telling him to do so.  He does it all by himself if he holds his hands.  He's also starting to make some consonant sounds like "ba" and "da".  Tyler was pretty sick last week due to another tooth (tooth #2!) and it caused vomitting, diarrhea, and a lack of an appetite.  It lasted about a week.  Despite all the sicknesses he's had, he really is a very happy baby!

Tyler is 6 months today, and we had his dr appt this morning. His stats are: weight: 17 lbs 4 ounces (50th percentile), length: 27 1/4 inches (75 percentile). He has always been 50th percentile for weight or a little below, so she is fine with that. Looks like he will be tall and thin like his daddy! But does that really surprise anyone?? She was very pleased with his development, and this time instead of laying on the scale, he sat up to get weighed! We have to give him a little flouride because we have well water, and she explained that we can give him pretty much anything within reason as far as foods go. He got two shots today, and he took them like a champ. He barely cried and smiled not long afterwards. Again, just like his daddy....
9/11/06
Tyler was baptized yesterday in Jamestown.  He did so great during the service and the baptism and looked so cute!  He got a little tired and fussy afterwards when we tried to take the pictures and "re-enact."  So, our pictures are limited!  Josh's grandparents came down from Delaware to meet Tyler for the first time.  Overall, it was a great day!

9/7/06
Tyler has battled his third cold now.  This one was especially bad, but we did find out that it was due to teething.  His first tooth finally broke through the other day.  Sometimes he will cooperate and let you see it, but I can see a little white tooth sticking up and can feel it with my pinky finger.  He had a rough few days complete with a high fever and sleepless nights.  It was just as rough for mommy!  I had to take off a few days so that I could take care of him and catch up on some sleep.  He seems to be doing much better now.  Time will only tell when his next tooth will decide to emerge!

We've been introducing several foods to Tyler.  So far he has had carrots, peas, green beans, sweet potatoes, and today he had bananas!  He loved all of them, but showed a clear preference for the bananas.  He did not care for oatmeal at all, so we put that to the side.  We are also introducing some juices.  Today he had some apple juice.  We started doing that when he had his fever to keep him hydrated.

8/28/06
Tyler turned 5 months yesterday.  The time is really flying!  So much has changed in the past week.  I think he knows he's getting older! He now sleeps through the night (finally!) and can go to bed on his own.  No more bouncing and rocking at night.  We are still working on the naps.  It's hard because he goes to daycare during the day, so I can't establish a daytime routine with him.  But, we've got night down pat!

7:00  bathtime
7:30  bottle
8:00  asleep!

He will sleep until around 6:45.  I'd love to get him to sleep longer on the weekends since I am home and can sleep in, but I'll take what I can get!  What made him all of a sudden (and I mean all of a sudden!) sleep through the night?  I stopped swaddling him.  If only I'd known that he really didn't need it.  He might have sleep better a long time ago!  Oh well, we live and we learn!  Next baby, I'll be so much more prepared!

He's also rolling from his back to his belly like he's a gymnast! He wants to crawl, but hasn't quite figured it out yet.  He is also standing on his own while holding onto an object.  I think he's early for this!  His daddy wants him to walk so much.  I'm not ready or prepared for that quite yet!

He's growing very rapidly.  He is so long that he has to wear 6-12 month clothes!  His weight is right at average, but he is very long! Before long, we will be moving into size 3 diapers!

8/9/06
Month four has shown to be a pretty great month so far.  Tyler has really started to develop his personality and is just a joy to be around.  He wakes up cooing and smiling (unless it's in the middle of the night).  He's definitely turning into a flirt.  He's sleeping a little longer at night and is rarely fussy.  He already has two girlfriends (though he doesn't know it yet), Hailee Scott Wright and Elisa Ann Miller.  My two friends, Mere and Kara had their babies in July and August.  Both girls, of course!  I've yet to find a friend who's had a boy! Maybe the next round of pregnancies in my group will produce a boy!  I never saw myself with a baby let alone a little baby boy, but I have to say I love being flirted with...even if it's from my own son!

8/2/06
Tyler had his 4 month drs appt yesterday. We didn't get to see his normal doctor, but the doctor we saw was very nice. Tyler weighed in at 14lbs, 4 ounces! He's doubled his birth weight! That puts him in the 50th percentile. He is 26 1/4 inches long, which puts him in the 90th percentile. He's going to be TALL! He had his second round of shots (4 each). He did really well and forgot about them once he was fed a bottle! The dr gave us the "ok" to start solids. We gave him a little cereal last night, but he was not very interested because he was past his feeding time and wanted his bottle! So, I'm going to try again tonight in between feedings. We are starting with cereal for a few days, but then I think we are going to move into the veggies and fruit. For now, we are going to do this in addition to his regular bottles. The doctor told us that eventually Tyler will exchange a bottle feeding for solids himself. I guess he will let us know. He is sleeping anywhere between 3-6 hrs at a time at night. Last night, he slept 8 hrs straight, but I'm afraid it might be a fluke! He is really talking up a storm and smiles and giggles quite a bit for his mommy and daddy. His new thing: blowing bubbles and drooling all over the place! His not teething yet, but I'm sure it's on it's way in the next months. He has all of a sudden outgrown most all of his 3-6 month outfits. Being as naive as I am, I figured he'd stay in size 6-9 mo clothes through at least fall and early winter, but now I'm not so sure! So, we are entering 6-9 month clothes! He hit a growth spurt, and I completely missed it! His next well visit is at 6 months. It's hard to imagine that he could be starting to crawl by then!

7/27/06
Tyler is now four months! Check out how he is developmentally!

Playing with Toys
It's time to take some more of those baby gifts off the shelf. Although your infant has shown little interest up to now in playing with toys, you can expect him to change his tune this month.

Kicking, grabbing, swatting and rattling are evidence of your baby's improving motor skills. He's learning how toys work, too. Which requires memory and a longer attention span.

New visual skills also show up this month. Your four-month-old is learning that objects come in different colors, shapes, sizes and even textures. Staring intensely at a toy gives her lots of pleasure. It's as if he's just discovering what a beautiful world he lives in.

Tummy Time
Some babies roll over as early as three months. Others wait until they begin to sit and crawl. Most babies roll over tummy to back first, then learn to roll the other way. Signs that your baby is about to roll. Rocking back and forth on his stomach, kicking his legs and "swimming" with his arms.

Once your baby discovers the joy of motion, he may turn into a rolling machine. Watch him carefully on the changing table and other high surfaces. He's quicker than you think.

Clowning Around
Once your baby starts laughing, you won't want him to stop. Get ready to make a fool of yourself this month. Babies usually start laughing at around four months. What gets the most giggles? Try funny faces, goofy grins and "raspberries" on that adorable little belly.

Brain Teaser
Did you know...
…that your baby can make voluntary movements, like reaching for toys? That's because he's been practicing his hand and arm skills, which help promote new growth in his brain.

7/22/06
We had a great time at the beach. Check out selected pictures on the photo album page. Tyler did very well in the water, but prefered the pool over the beach mainly due to the sand! Next year will be so different since he will be walking and running all over the beach! He had a few nights of sleeping longer hours and took very good naps down there! I think being outside every day really wore him out. When we got home, he adjusted right back but soon after he got a cold. This is his first time being sick, but he's not really affected by it. He has a cough and is congested. However, he doesn't have a fever. This, of course, has affected his sleeping schedule. Hopefully, he will get over the cold soon. Brenda is in the process of moving into her new house in the next weeks. We have been very lucky to have her here the past months to help out with Tyler and to provide nice company. She hopes to still help out on her days off. We know she will go through "Tyler withdrawal!" We are actively planning Tyler's baptism which is September 10 in Jamestown. We will have a lunch "reception" afterwards at the Town Hall where everyone can hang out and eat. It should be a good day. Tyler's next drs appointment in Aug. 1. He will be 4 months in just a few days!

7/5/06
We had a great 4th of July in Jamestown, and Tyler even managed to laugh a few times! We are packing and getting ready for our beach trip July 8-15. We hope that Tyler will enjoy it even though he won't have a clue what's going on! Check out some new pictures under the photo album page.

6/25/06
Tyler turns three months on Tuesday.  The time has gone by so fast.  He rolled over for the first time yesterday!  He also got a preview of the beach outside in the baby pool.  He's talking much more and really attempting to mimic everything I do.  His sleep is better on certain nights.  He has begun to sleep at least one five hour stretch.  I tried to let him cry it out like many books suggest, but it hasn't really made much of a difference.  Plus, I have a hard time letting him cry for hours and hours.

Tyler is now sleeping in his crib in his nursery.  Up until now, he has been sleeping in his swing.  He is outgrowing it fast (at least for sleeping) so, we are reserving the swing for playtime only!  Tyler is not sleeping so well.  We were lucky about a month ago to have a few weeks of 5-7 hr nights.  However, in the past month he has declined to 2-3 hr nights!  This is not very fun! He is still very gassy, which might be a reason why he wakes up often.  Hopefully with the 3 month mark coming around, he will start to get better and will end up sleeping longer.  I hope so!

5/31/06
Tyler had his 2 month check-up today.  He weighs 10 lbs, 15 ounces.  He has grown to 24 inches in length as well!  He had to get his four shots today, and boy did he cry!  But he was a trooper!  He's growing so fast and it becomes obvious when I see his earlier pictures.  He is smiling all the time now, he's discovering his hands, and he has less and less fussy days.  He's sleeping anywhere from 4-7 hrs at a time at night.  His daycare is great for him as well.  He's the youngest baby there and is constantly spoiled by all the teachers!  His next doctor's appointment is at 4 months.  He will be able to start a few solids then, and I'm thinking he will enjoy that!

5/15/06
This past Friday, Tyler smiled at me for the first time!  He perfected it all weekend for Mother's Day!  It's so great to see him happier.  This morning was his first day of daycare.  It was sad to drop him off and head in to work.  He has been sleeping on a much better schedule that is now predictable.  He's also sleeping a little longer at night.  He gets a least one 4-5 hr stretch now and follows with a few 3 hr stretches!  His head and neck control is getting stronger too. He will be 2 months next Monday!  He's growing so fast!

5/3/06
Tyler is 5 1/2 weeks old and just had his month dr appointment.  He weighs 9 lbs and 5 ounces!  He had to get his second dose of his Hep B shot, but he was a trooper! The past week has been difficult and his pediatrician told us it seems Tyler is colic.  This has been a pretty stressful adjustment, but we are hopeful that he will get better soon.  I go back to work in a week and wonder how in the world I will be able to manage.  However, we are lucky to have Josh's mom to stay with us for a while until she finds a house.  I am positive she will be able to help us out tremendously.  Tyler's next dr appointment is at 2 months.  My 6 week follow-up appointment is next Tuesday.  I hope that I will be able to resume an exercise routine and lose the rest of this baby fat!

4/24/06
Tyler is officially 1 month old today.  He had two doctor appointments today--genetics and cardiology.  These appointments were to follow-up on his condition while in the hospital.  Everything looks great, and there is no reason for concern.  Tyler had all his vitals checked, and he now weighs a whooping 8 lbs 10 ounces.  That's a 2lb increase in less than 4 weeks!  He also finally lost his umbilical cord today while at the hospital--the first milestone I guess!

Tyler arrived on 3/27!  We are home and doing very well as we adjust.  Check out his birth story for details on his birth.  Tyler had his first doctor's appt this Monday.  He had left the hospital weighing 6 lbs, 10 ounces, and he was up to 7 lbs, 1 ounces 3 days later!  His blood level was also very good.  We go back in a month.

3/25/06
Still here, pregnant, and 2 days overdue. I can tell if I don't keep myself busy this weekend, the hours are going to drag by.  At least at work I am occupied and don't sit around thinking.  Tyler is moving a lot.  I'm just not sure when he plans to move out! Monday is my next drs appt and we will discuss a plan if he hasn't come by then.  Let's hope he decides to make an appearance on his own!

3/23/06
Happy due date!  So, where's Tyler?  Looks like he will be making a late arrival!  Hopefully, he will come this weekend so we won't have to go too much longer and get induced at 41 weeks.  Perhaps, he's still a little too cozy...

3/20/06
Well, we are starting the week of my due date and only 3 days away.  Will he come early or on time??  I'm starting to think not!  I have a doctor's appt. today, so I guess I will see how that goes and post if anything significant occurs!  Send labor vibes!

What's Happening with the Baby? (39 weeks)
Tyler's ready to greet the world! He continues to build a layer of fat to help control his body temperature after birth, but it's likely he already measures about 20 inches and weighs a bit over 7 pounds. (Boys tend to be slightly heavier than girls.) His organs are fully developed and in place, and the outer layers of skin are sloughing off as new skin forms underneath.

Today, I felt my first real contractions.  I started feeling tightening in my stomach which I've felt before.  But then it got a little more painful and definitely came in intervals.  I noticed as I was talking, I was out of breath.  So, I kept talking thinking nothing of it but finally I realized maybe I should just time it.  I noticed I was sweating a little too.  So, I took a break and got some water.  I walked past Taylor's desk and said "I could be crazy, but I feel like I'm having real contractions."  So, I went to the bathroom and came back cause we were going to try and time them.  By the time I got back they were gone.  It was nice to see that something happened though. I was totally oblivious to what was happening at the time cause I was concentrating on work, but once I figured it out I wasn't scared but hoping it would keep going!!  Maybe next time!

3/11/06
The days are definitely winding down and even though I have most everything under control, I still feel unprepared in many ways.  The nursery is done, and I've had all my showers and received his essential items.  However, I'm not sure Josh and I will feel 100% ready until it actually happens.  I try to enjoy my last few days/weeks of freedom and quietness, but it's hard when you feel there is so much to do like keep the house clean, laundry done, and get through a day of work!  And of course on top of that, I'm supposed to prop my feet up every day to alleviate the swelling.  I might get an hour of my night to do this, and it's usually during my American Idol hour! I have finally finished my pregnancy scrapbook.  I was a little slack on it, but I did want to finish it before he was born so that I could start on his baby one!  Today was my "get to" day.  I wanted to get through today (hair appt-silly, I know) and to find a temp for work, which we did.  Now, I'm ready whenever he is.  The week of March 13 would be SO ideal with Josh's schedule.  And Tuesday is a full moon too! However, that's still a week early, and Tyler could always decide to be too cozy to come out quite yet.  I'm still patient because unlike many other things in my life, this is one event I know I can't plan out and schedule.  My biggest fear is being induced or having a c-section.  Neither are favorable to me.  Oh well, only time will tell.  Or maybe I should say "Tyler's in charge!" Such a boy...

3/8/06
I had my 38 week drs appt on Monday.  Everything is looking good!

3/3/06
Today I had my work baby shower.  I got lots of fun clothes and baby items from my co-workers including a hand-knitted blanket made by my boss!  You can see pictures on the photo album page from all my showers.  There are also summaries of each baby shower on the baby shower page.

What's Happening with the Baby? (37 weeks)
My pregnancy is considered a "term" pregnancy at this point and nothing will be done to stop labor in most circumstances. Tyler is practicing breathing by inhaling amniotic fluid. The average size is around 6.5 lbs now!

3/1/06
It's finally March! I can't believe we've finally made it to the right month! I'm anxious now, and I'm very ready to get things going! Let's get the show on the road!  Tyler, we're just waiting on you.

2/25/06
Yesterday was my 36 week appt.  I'm officially 9 months now!  My blood pressure is a little up, and I've had some extra swelling, so the doctor wants to keep a closer eye on me.  I was a fingertip dialated and 60% effaced.  The doctor said that was good for this to be my first! This weekend are our childbirth classes.
Pregnancy:  my backaches are a little more controllable now.  I'm taking Tylenol each morning and sitting on a heating pad at night.  Heartburn seems to be increasing, and it's of course getting harder to get up and down and to walk.  At this point, any cramp I feel sends me into "curious mode."  However, I've felt nothing more than what I assume are Braxton Hicks contractions so far.  The anxiety of labor is starting to kick in, however I'm still remaining slightly oblivious till a little closer to date!!

2/18/06
This week has been fairly uncomfortable.  I've had some bad backaches to where it's been pretty hard to even walk.  I finally broke down and called the nurse who gave me some things to try.  At this point, it's pretty much expected to feel very uncomfortable.  Hopefully, I only have another month, at the most, to feel the "pains."  I have finished packing my hospital bag just in case Tyler decides to make an early appearance.

What's Happening with the Baby? (35 weeks)
Tyler could already weigh about 5 pounds, but this week begins his most rapid period of weight gain - about 8 to 12 ounces (226 to 340 grams) each week! Fat is being deposited all over his body, especially around the shoulders.  Because of this increasing size, he is now cramped and restricted inside the uterus - so fetal movements may decrease, but they may be stronger and more forceful.

2/11/06
I had my 34 week doctor's appointment today.  I measured 36 weeks!  I hope that isn't an indication of his size but more of an indication that he might come early!  His heartbeat was up higher at 160, but it's still healthy.  He has turned head down which explains all the uncomfortable pressure I've had the past two days.  My co-workers are now considering taking bets on when I will go into labor.  All but one, my boss, believes I will be 1-2 weeks early.  I guess we will see!  I still need time to find a replacement for me at work!
Pregnancy:  Lots of pressure lower where he is resting now.  My bathroom stops are more frequent now!  It's harder to walk, and when I do my stomach gets very tight.  I'm much more comfortable when sitting.  Sleeping habits aren't horrible, but I don't sleep through the night.

1/30/06
At almost 33 weeks and into my 8th month, Tyler is kicking and rolling around like crazy.  Last week, I was actually able to start feeling his feet poking me on my right side!  Kinda strange, but still cute at the same time!  The dr. said he is laying sideways.  I had my first baby shower last weekend and got some great things!  My next one is Feb. 4 (this weekend).  It's a daily thing for people at work to ask my due date now.
Pregnancy:  Overall, I can't complain too much.  My back hurts on select days, and I'm still swelling.  I'm sleeping well too.  The discomfort is on it's way, I'm afraid though!

1/15/06
"Aunt Taylor" and I painted the nursery this weekend.  The color came out great.  Only problem is that it got in places it really shouldn't have!  I'm really excited to start decorating it with the bedding, etc.

What’s Happening with the Baby? (30-31 weeks)
Tyler knows my voice. Singing to him, talking to him, and telling him all about the world he’ll be joining soon is a great way for Josh and I to bond with the baby—and each other! His fingernails have grown and he may even need a manicure after he's born. He is packing on the weight now! In the last two weeks, he should have gained almost 12 ounces. He's a wrinkled little thing, but getting more "baby-like" by the day.

1/11/06
Today I had my 30 week dr. appt.  I measured at 31 weeks.  The doctor said not to think too much about it since it's still early.  However, it could push my due date up a week to March 16!  Funny since my original due date was March 17.

1/7/06
Today we are setting up your nursery with your crib, changing table, and rocking chair!  It will take some time to get your room painted and completely together, but we think you along with everyone else will love it!  We'll post pictures as soon as it's finished.
Pregnancy:  backaches, sleepless nights, acid reflux, and swollen fingers and ankles!  These are the highlights of my week!

1/1/06
You're finally in your birth year...and I'm finally getting closing to having you!  Happy 2006!
Pregnancy:  I feel great and look forward to completing my third trimester!

Summary of First and Second Trimesters:

My first two trimesters were anything but easy!  Everything that the books said could happened sure enough happened to me!  I experienced nausea from weeks 6 all the way to week 17.  At week 7, I was hospitalized for dehydration.  It was a rough time to say the least, but now that's it's over I feel a little more confident about having a second child!! :o)

However with the bad came good.  In my second trimester, I was able to find out we were having a little boy--our hunch was correct!  We watched you on the ultrasound screen, and realized you would be a future soccer star with all the kicking you were doing!

My Pregnancy Milestones:
Found out we were pregnant on July 16, 2005!
